The worldwide number of cell phone users surpassed 2 billions in
2005— from 11 millions in 1990 and 750 million in 2000. China dominated the cell phone users list with nearly 400 millions as at the end of 2005—almost twice as many
as in the USA. Russia has seen tremendous growth in the last few years and is
projected to be running in third place by the year-end 2005. Rapid expansion of cell
phones in India will see a future climb in the rankings to a possible number two in
2013. Worldwide cell phone subscribers have reached more than 3.2 billions by the end
of the year 2010.
